My little sister
I miss her so much sometimes it feels like I’m dying. Every day that the world turns without her my heart breaks even more, how is this possible? A year and a half later and it still feels like I can’t move sometimes. There is a protective numbness most days but sometimes it’s wiped away like dirt off a windshield and I can see again, see how she is truly gone and I fall to pieces and can’t move. I’m here because I’m too lazy to grab my journal three feet away and find a pen. I’m here because I’m alone right now and it feels like I’m dying. I need her. I need to tell her I’m sorry. I need to get up and pack and clean my house but I also need to lay here and maybe go back to sleep because today is one of those days where I can see again and I want to rip out my eyes. I don’t want this. I don’t know what to do.

We are the wealthiest nation in the history of the world, so why are so many people struggling to put food on the table? No one who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty. The minimum wage has got to be raised to a living wage. We need a countrywide political revolution to make our government work for the benefit of working and middle class Americans. We need to address racism in our police forces and hold police officers accountable for their actions. Healthcare is a human right, and it is a moral atrocity that we charge people to get medical help. How can anyone possibly think that it isn't essential to make college tuition free if we want to be competitive in a global economy? We need to take immediate and bold action to fight for the futures of our young people, in terms of class mobility, but also making sure the planet is habitable for them. |

The deeply worrying thing about catcalling is that the catcaller must know that their target isn’t going to turn around and fall in to their arms pleading ‘oh dear my please have sex with me here and now’. A lot of the time they know that. Often they don’t do it for that, someone who shouts ‘nice tits’ from a van isn’t trying to date you. They’re trying to humiliate you, reinforce their dominance over you; it’s an exercise of male power. It’s a way of communicating ‘I can say and do whatever I want to you, no matter how inappropriate or how uncomfortable it makes you feel, and you can’t do anything about it.’ Catcalling is not a compliment, it’s a threat.
